RBRR August CAMP
What
Band camp is mandatory for all band students. This is the "pre-season" session that introduces and solidifies marching and field show fundamental skills. Aside from learning marching and music, it is an opportunity to meet new band members and get reacquainted with old ones.

Where
RBHS Performing Arts Wing/Marching (Football) Field
Food & Drink
Students should eat a healthy and filling meal to make it through the entire day.
Bring your own snack for later if you tend to get hungry.
Bring a large thermos of water or sports drink to keep yourself hydrated.
Dinner will be at 5:00 p.m. Please send a meal with your child or drop off at 5:00 p.m in the PAC circle.
Dress
Students should dress appropriately for the weather. Athletic Shorts/T-Shirts or similar athletic attire are suggested for camp.
Bring a sweatshirt or light jacket for the evening sessions. Once the sun goes down, it can cool off quickly.
Wear comfortable athletic shoes and socks.
Hat and/or sunglasses for day time.
Your child will be on their feet for the majority of camp. Please make sure their shoes are comfortable and will last through the week.
What to Bring
Instrument/mouthpiece if not stored at school
Music and pencil
Sweatshirt – if it cools off
Bring sunscreen! This is very important for the daytime sessions on the marching (football) field. Pack sunscreen to reapply whenever necessary throughout the week.
Most important: Remind your student to bring plenty of water and/or sports drinks to remain hydrated! Marching band and guard activities are VERY physically demanding at times, and even on cool evenings, students need to remain hydrated. Breaks are given often to allow students to drink, so encourage your student to use these breaks to drink plenty of liquids. Students should bring a thermos to ensure enough water throughout the day.
Getting There
Get acquainted with band parents that live in your area. Arranging carpools cuts down on number of pick-ups/delivery for everyone and saves on gas, wear and tear on car/parent.
Parking
Park in the RBHS parking lot. You can drop students off in the circle in front of the Performing Arts Center, but do not park there.
Can My Student Drive His/Herself?
Yes, if your student is a licensed driver and has parent permission.
Can I Watch?
Parents are always welcome to observe band practices in the stadium. During band camp you may not be interested in staying the entire time, but you are welcome watch for a while after dropping-off your child or come a little early for pick-up.
What do I need to know as a parent?
These two weeks are all about building a solid marching foundation for the season. Call it “music intensive” or “music boot-camp,” but these weeks are a cornerstone of one of the best high school music programs anywhere. If you regularly come to band practices you will be amazed at the progress our students make as the season proceeds.
Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers are always needed. Ask a Band Booster board member or committee chair how you can help for a single day or multiple activities throughout the band season.
